"...her rates are super reasonable..."

I had the pleasure of attending a conference given by World-Voices Organization and finally experienced first hand what they are all about. What an opportunity to meet people I have watched online, grow their business, sell their spinoff businesses, plus, meet friends I’d never met in person! WoVOCon4 provided the opportunity to meet… to reflect… and to learn… and I am grateful.

Why network with your peers and, essentially, your competition?

For the most part, when going to an industry function, most of the people ARE NOT your competition. They are not YOU. We have our unique way of being and doing. Walking in with that attitude welcomes connections with EVERYONE. Still, the attendees are those who do what you do everyday and generally live the same lifestyle as you. As a result, you receive A LOT from interacting for:

-support, empathy, understanding your business issues

-resources, in order to raise your own game and raise the bar

-educating you as to where you stand

-providing community

Why Voice-over Conferences are worthy of your time

Since we work in, essentially, TOTAL ISOLATION, a voice conference obviously allow you to get out of the studio!!! Further, you receive a reflection of where you stand. By listening to speakers, and other attendees, you ultimately do a self-evaluation – Did I know that already? Did I learn something? This, in turn, allows you to raise your own bar, from both an educational stand-point and marketing-wise. Further, you gain access and exposure to available resources that you may or may not have known about. And, you meet others with the exact same lifestyle, issues, conundrums you may face on a day-to-day basis.

What you missed (or perhaps. more accurately, WHO you missed…)

The event started this weekend with a generous swag bag and a 5-minute massage! The weekend included invaluable socializing and an educational WoVO shareholders meeting. And, here are some of the highlights:

  • Melissa Moatsa sought-after, working professional with impressive credits including the promo voice for The Ellen Show, shared “Perfecting the Retail Read”
  • David GoldbergCEO of Edge Studio, a voice-over education meca, with every resource you could ever need, shared “Break Through in Your Career”
  • Julie Williamsvoice-over coach extraordinaire with tons of notable voice-over credits, shared “Technique to excel in eLearning & Narration”
  • Google AdWordsa team of Google experts, guiding us in the ways of advertising on Google, shared “How to use Google AdWords”

  4. Yeah! Great summation and helpful for any contemplating the value of attending conferences when weighing the cost. It was certainly worth the price of admission to meet YOU in person! You’re even more kindhearted and lovely than I thought you would be. Fabulous memories! ❤️

    Nicely done!

Especially love the “why” in your post. That more important to me than the sessions.

In the “What You Missed” section I would like to offer kudos to J.Michael Collins for his thought provoking session on the future of VO. Certainly challenged the conventional thinking about where the VO job growth will be in the next 5-10 years
