VOICE. TALENT.

Posts Under "pronunciation"

Someone called me out recently on having a Canadian accent, in a social setting, and wondered if that hindered my voiceover business. Actually, she assumed it did. If I wasn't so polite, I'd have bit her head off...in the kindest, most gentlest way, of course... It is my job to make certain I'm reading all scripts with neutrality and pronouncing words appropriate for each region. I pride myself on having clients all over North America, two thirds from the US...  In casual conversation, my "out and about's" come out... but no, my Canadian-ness does not hinder my business. HOWEVER... in 11 years in business,[...]

Voice Talent

Creating a list of unique selling points is important to help you stand out as an employee, an interviewee, a company What makes me stand out from any other female, middle-age voice talent?  It’s taken me years to know why and how I was in any way different from another. Standing out in a crowd of other voice talent, voice actors, and radio announcers is no easy task. Putting my wishes out to the Universe? Indeed. With reverence to my beloved loyal clients who check off all the reasonable requests, here is my wish list…'cause you know what's coming around the corner! THE PERFECT VOICE-OVER CLIENT… reveals their budget upfront. …because knowing this avoids the dicey risk of my both over and under bidding. specifies how the audio will be used. Besides basing our rates on word count[...]

It is well-known that Canadians and Americans say “out” and “about” differently.  I’ve come across several other words that I need to watch when recording.  Words such as premier, route, process, produce, adult, and organization, can be pronounced differently.  Further, some words can be the same in certain parts of the States, but different in others.
