VOICE. TALENT.

This week, with intensity, I organized having an aerial and interior video made for the sale of our house. As someone who has voiced many-a-real-estate-listing and is a small business owner myself, I went into the task with some high expectations for hiring the right company. From doing my research online and engaging with half a dozen video production companies, here's what I learned about service and marketing: When responding to a new customer, watch grammar, typos, punctuation. Messy correspondence leaves a bad impression. Use full sentences. No need to be formal, but being too casual also leaves a bad impression. If[...]

EVERYTHING WE DO contributes to creating the life we are in… …choices we make, and those that are made when don't make the choice, contribute to creating our lives. We can choose to be happy or choose to be unhappy. Yes, many things are not in our control, but how we respond is our choice and determines where and how we will land on the other side. I've made a lot of BIG changes to move to different countries in the name of creating the life I want… sometimes taking a step or two back, and THAT's OKAY...all in the name of learning.[...]

I've had a manager fired at almost every job I've ever had. This is not intentional and I can't say I wear this experience proudly. On the other hand, I AM proud of my demand for professionalism, no matter what job I held. Plus...I'm a stickler for "do as I do" and not "do as I say". I like to think of myself as a customer service expert. Working in the hospitality industry for twelve plus years gave me a great education. And, owning a business as a voice-over professional is no different. In fact, I believe most of my clients[...]

You have time…as much as any other person in this world, Einstein, Oprah, Bill Gates, or Beethoven - anyone else you deem having more time to learn, progress, gain money, experience, build an empire. Time is a level playing field and this is what is meant by “In good time” and “God speed”… Today is Tuesday. I had to consciously remember today because every day is blending into the next as it does in busier times in our lives. For many of us, it’s a constant barrage of to do lists, emails, and go, go, go. Remember the time when we used to[...]

While recently recording a couple of scripts, I recognized how I "put love" in my recordings and what that means… Not every script is necessarily loveable, but I do treat each script with love and care. So, what the heck does that mean?!? Integrity. I set my intention to work and read and deliver with the integrity that comes from putting my heart into my work. Otherwise, to me, there is no point in being in business. Whether to be in best voice, to be an effective entrepreneur, or to give my best to my family, setting an intention is a remarkable[...]

In keeping with my series on Ten Tips for Talking, a key element to success in using one's best voice is mental state. In preparation for any interaction, be it business or personal, starting with a positive mental outlook makes a big difference, with the first impression we leave with others, how we carry ourselves, and how we proceed in business and life. Given that our mind and body are so completely connected, it would stand to reason that what's going on in our mind would be reflected in the sound of our voice, an audible expression of our physical[...]

At eleven years old, I told a childhood friend that my mom had put me on a program called "25 Days to Better Health". My mother had no such plan. It was all me. I have no idea what I thought I was going to do, or where I came up with the idea, but I clearly had a penchant for self-improvement early on. In that vein, I have recently improved and refreshed my demos to better represent my voice. I've had the same commercial demo for about 4 years and it was time. [audio mp3="http://yourworkisallitalkabout.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/natasha-marchewka-commercial-demo-july-2014.mp3"][/audio]   However, in addition to my belief in[...]

I’m not naïve about the fact that I am dispensable as a voice actor and…yes, as a mother. As a voice talent, I am one small fish in a very big pond and am well aware that many other voice actors could fill my shoes in a heart-beat. As a mother, it HAS occurred to me that I’m also replaceable.  Millions of others do what I do and could indeed replace me on any given day. So what in the world makes me so special or unique? Well, perhaps it’s not that I’m special at all, but that I am working – I am working[...]

You may be familiar with the phrase “don’t take anything personally”, if you've read “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz.  Even if you haven’t read the book, it’s a lesson we all can learn at some point, especially in business. And, while it’s taken me decades to live that lesson, I have always managed to keep from personalizing in my own business.  I am very comfortable with the idea that my voice just wasn't what the client was looking for that day.  It might be perfect for someone else on any other day. The voice-over business is competitive, to say[...]
