There is no question in my mind that SLEEP is one of the most important factors in my success as a voice talent, a business owner, and as a parent.

While a good night’s rest may be obvious for success in parenting, and in general, as a person who works with my voice, it’s absolutely key. If exhausted, there is nothing that replaces sleep in order to speak with an even, consistent tone. If you are working with your voice as a trainer, presenter, teacher, speaker, sleep needs to be a priority. While only #4 on my list of 10 Top Tips for Talking, it could easily take #1 spot.

Here are my 10 tips on how to consistently achieve quality sleep:

  1. Go to bed at the same time every night (7 nights a week!)
  2. Wake up at the same time EVERY day.
  3. Exercise regularly.
  4. Add Yoga to your life.
  5. Use guided meditation to relax before bed and therefore, sleep soundly.
  6. Avoid sugar and caffeine before bed.
  7. Do not drink alcohol before bed.
  8. Get rid of all light sources in your sleeping environment.
  9. Keep the room temperature comfortable.
  10. Do not use electronics up to one hour before bed.

Sweet Dreams!
