As a result of voicing scripts for ten years, my singing performance experience, and recent Yoga training, I've realized an astute ability to coach speakers on their personal performance of a prepared speech. I recently had the great fortune to work with "The Phone Lady", Mary Jane Copps, on a speech. Initially, Mary Jane was very confident that she knew what she was doing as a seasoned communicator. She thought she was coming to me for a few constructive comments. It came as a surprise to her that her own presentation could be improved significantly with coaching. When interviewed for the job, I remember saying, “Who wouldn’t want to watch commercials all summer?” Apparently, that clinched it for me, since no one felt quite as passionate about commercials as I did. Perhaps that was a foreshadowing into my current profession? Only recently have I acknowledged how much I still like a good commercial. After watching thousands of TV commercials at TVB and subsequently voicing several more thousand over the past ten[...]

I always thought one of the very best questions to get to know anyone was “what’s your story?” Even for someone you know, asking them on any given day “what’s your story?” will fill you in on what’s going on for them, what’s real for them in the moment. Even more interesting to me was their reaction when they found out more of my backstory – who I was and how I came to[...]

Aside from the fact that it helps me daily in my business, there ain't no one that can't be helped with a cooler vibe, if you know what I mean. Maintaining calm is beneficial to our overall health. A calm mind and body allows our body to function optimally and heal continuously. In my Ten Top Tips for Talking, "staying calm" is right up there with staying hydrated and avoiding illness. If you are[...]

Hello Dear Reader! I am taking January off from blogging - both hibernating in Halifax and rejuvenating in Grand Cayman! Thank you for your readership in 2014. I am truly grateful. Back to it in Feb 2015! The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for my blog. Here's an excerpt: A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 3,800 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 3 trips to carry that many people. Click here to see the complete report.[...]
